Starbucks, I Hate You Today

Picture 026

Has anyone visited Starbucks lately? Well before you go there thinking that you can access the Internet with your Starbucks card, STOP! Let me tell you a little frustrating story that happened to me today based on this very same assumption...

As you will probably know from my rantings by now, when I come home and visit my parents in Kington, they have dial-up internet. That means that in order to do anything on line I must wander out into the city and find a place where I can access it for free. My usual spot is Starbucks in Chapters. I love it because I can make a lovely outting of it. But not today...today I found out that you cannot access the internet using your Starbucks card anymore, oh no. You must set up an account with Starbucks and then activate it before you can start using the net. However, here is the straw that broke the camel's back today, after you sign up for the account you cannot get to your e-mail to activate the Starbucks account because you cannot access the internet UNTIL you activate the account. So there I was sitting in Starbucks staring at my computer screen in disbelief that the people who created this new program were this dumb. I don't think it was actually tested before it was set up.

But they got me in the end, I went home, waited 15 mintues for my e-mail to load, and activated my account. Now here I am happy as clam blogging away.

Find of the Day!

So yesterday I had planned on going garage saling early on Saturday, but didn't go to bed until 3:00am and then woke up at 11:00am. I figured that garage sales usually end around 2:00pm or so, so we would have miss all the good stuff the early birds found. However, I decided to go anyway and drag le bf along. We only found 3 sales and only stopped at one, but the one we stopped at had a gem! I could not beleive that I found a vintage YSL tote! The man there who was the same age as my bf said that he used when he was in grade 5, which would take it back to the mid 80's, but I don't know if it was brand new at that time. I can't believe it is in such good condition for being 20 years old.

Studded Glory

I dropped by a thrift store in streetsville yesterday after my haircut and found this B.B. Dakota dress and studded belt. I like the contrast of the girly ruffled dress with the seriousness of the belt. It's just fun. Since watching the Sex and the City movie I have wanted the studded belt that stylist Patricia Field said was a vintage find. If you loved it too, good news! Asos has made a similar replica and it is available for 15Pounds here.

Also worth a mention, on my day in Streetsville, I had a disappointing stop at Second Cup. I went in to grab a tea while waiting to head over for my hair appointment and, after ordering my usual Orange Poeko, found that it has been discontinued! Second Cup has stopped selling Orange Poeko tea which is regular black tea and the most used in the world. I thought this was a little crazy and needed to be shared with everyone :)

The New IT

As part of tradition, every year there are different pieces of clothing that designers and critics alike celebrate as the must-have of the season. From bell-bottoms to acid-washed jeans to platform shoes and chunky jewelry, the industry comes up with the new fashion focuses. This year I have noticed more attention paid to a different accessory than I have in previous years. So, I am declaring the new "IT" darling of designers, the heel. It seems to be the one area that designers are applying their full fledged personality and setting themselves apart from others.
Clothes are clothes are clothes, they are fun and creative but you can only reinvent the blouse or the LBD so many times before it becomes old hat. However, at the moment the heel seems to be limitless in its design. As long as it has the functionality that a shoe needs, it can be styled and designed in any way and give a creative pop when our clothes are a bit more conservative. As for our clothing, we do not want to wear something that is completely ostentatious or liberace-esque even if it covers everything. I think that this indulgent flare that we are willing to express can be perfectly accomplished by a heel. Some of this Spring/Summer designs that have cought my eye are shown below starting with my favourite designer, McQueen:

HEAT WAVE

DSCF2004

I was getting a little frustrated with the constant cool weather we have been having, it is late June after all. But I would gladly have those temperatures back after the heat wave we have had over the past 2 days. But despite the heat I needed to get out of the house today because I didn't go anywhere yesterday. I decided to take a trip up to Streetsville, which is a posh neighbourhood in Mississauga that has little boutiques and of course Starbucks. I was trying to figure out what to wear because it was deadly hot, but I do not like showing a lot of skin. I ended with this little number.

Settled

Picture 003

After having had my graduation ceremony and not needing to bustle around and do anything else for school, I can settle into this new phase of my life. I'm kind of glad that I didn't have a job over the last while because there were things I would have to have taken time off for. I have not been blogging lately because my grandmother hasn't been well. She has been in the hospital for the last week and we have been in there with her a lot of the time. However, she was discharged yesterday and, as giddy as a school girl, went home.
I will be leaving for Toronto tomorrow to continue the job search. I have applied for several internships at fashion magazines and other fashion industry businesses. I would really like a paying job, but if internships are all I can get to gain experience, I am going to take it and move forward.

The Graduate

I was in Ottawa this weekend for my graduation! I am officially all done school. The most exciting thing of the whole experience was the surprise of graduating Cum Laude which means with honours. The ceremony went well and the weather outside was perfect for pictures. I have lots and will be posting some soon!

In The Garden

I love a scarf. I love that it adds a cover-over my tanks without actually having to wear another shirt. This one I found second hand and absolutely love it. It has a really elegant pattern that adds some punch to my plane blue tank. I visited the Salmon Run mall in Watertown (US) on Friday and these two women in one of the stores flipped out over how I was wearing it. They thought my scarf was the most unique thing since roller-shoes. It was kind of embarassing actually because a scarf worn like this doesn't seem like anything new to me, let alone unique, but I was flattered by the compliments.

Tom Boy

Yesterday was a Fabricland day and I got the material for 2 more dresses. As for this shirt, I don't think I have worn it since highschool. I love it though, very dressed down and care free. I have been having a love affair with headbnds lately. My extra stretchy fabric that is left over from dress making, I tie into bands. Sitting at Starbucks at the moment job hunting. Anyone know of any marketing places open in the publishing industry?
