Miu Miu Skirt Inspiration

Because I'm sick and can't move much without hurting my ribs, plus my boyfriend was off to the pre-screening of the movie The Mummy, I decided to start sewing. I found this amazing fabric on sale that was regularly 20$ a meter down to 7$ AND the sales clerk gave me the end of the roll free of charge (which was another half meter!). I have been dying to make something with it because it is so gorgeous, but I've been nervous to cut it. Finally yesterday with little to do I began making a skirt out of it. I am wearing it to work today and will wear it out for dinner with the bf tonight. I took pictures of the fabric yesterday, and will take some of my skirt and post them either tonight or tomorrow! It is a Miu Miu puff skirt inspiration. Ciao for now!

Still Sick

Hello all, there isn't much change in my symptoms. I am still sick with strained rib muscles. I will be away this weekend in Kingston for my birthday party (yay!), but will be back and healthy (hopefully) to post next week.

The Loss of Fops and Dandies

Fops and Dandies was my first link and the first blog I read when I started blogging 2 months ago. It is the first blog I read when I log on to blogspot, continuously checking back if nothing has been posted yet that day. I felt that since hearing the news of her departure and shutting down of her blog in a few weeks, I should write an entry about her. This blog was my favourite. It has been consistent and always has content that is interesting to read about. It is not purely about big name fashion designers or focused on the newest trends, just about what is relevant to her and her observations about fashion. I have loved the picture posts about her outfits the most, they have given me ideas and have had an impact on my personal style. Even thought we are losing a great blog and blogger, I'm sure everyone that reads her blog wishes her the best of luck with Law School. You and your daily writings shall be missed! Good Luck!

Sorry...

I know I have been promising that I would take pictures outfits and clothes that I make, and then on top of that, I declared that I would make more time for blogging. I know I have been sucky lately, but I am really busy at work and after. This weekend and next week I am pretty clear as far as plans go so I should be able to make some headway on this blog! Bare with me, I am trying :)

Venezuela Crowned, Miss USA Goes Down!

The 57th edition of the Miss Universe pagent kicked off in Vietnam the other night. The pagent which started off with 80 contestants, including new entrant 21-year-old Laura Dundovic of Sydney who was hoping to pull a Jennifer Hawkins from 2004 and win the crown. The event was held at the seaside town of Nha Trang.
To end the nights festivities, the beautiful 22 year old Miss Venezuela,Dayana Mendoza, was crowned Miss Universe 2008. However, this is not the only story energing from the pagent. As the evening usually progresses from bathing suits to evening wear on so on, we witnessed a deja vu moment in the evening gown competition. Miss USA, for the second year in a row, fell by tripping on the train of her evening gown and landed on her behind. This mishap happened just as the judges had narrowed the 80 contestants down to 10, of which Miss USA, Crystle Stewart, was one of the contestants. But the jarred Crystle gracefully got up, smiled and waved to the crowd.
I feel bad for next years Miss USA because of thi trend that will make her no doubt more nervous than usual. The dejeweled gowns were beautiful, but I predict shorter ones next year.

Still in Love

Over a month ago I mentioned my obsession with headbands that were decorated with feathers and flowers or ones that just added that extra splash of detail. Well, this little muse has not gone away. It has been over a month and I still haven't changed my mind about them...this is HUGE! I would have normally declared something I have been thinking about for a long time, suddenly faux pas and moved on to the next craze, but this has stuck with me. Because this is still with me, it has inspired me to act! (PS, the pictures aren't me) I love fiddling and making things, hence taking up fashion sewing lessons, so I am going to start creating headbands. I have come up with a few concept, I just need to find the right materials for them. Pictures will be posted later on.
I'm also attending a fashion show this Friday, I will post pictures of the event.

Ottawa Designer

As you know, I am taking fashion sewing lessons from a local designer in Ottawa. If you were curious about her stuff you can check it out here. Her scarf halters are selling like hot cakes. They are super cute and each one is unique. because all of the scarves are different!

Camera Help

Hello all, I am in the market for a new camera. Mine is alright, it is 4 years old, a Kodak and has 4 digital zoom but doesn't do well in the dark. Since everyone on this blog takes beautiful pictures of there outfits and of the world around them I was wondering if anyone had camera recommendations or comments about which to stay away from? I would really appreciate the help!

Fergalicious

I went to the Fergie show at Bluesfest last night and was so happy I decided to go! That girl was smoking and she sounded really good. Only a few times was the music too loud to hear her. She played all of her hits, Fergalicious, Big Girls Don't Cry, Glamourous and some Black Eyed Peas. She also rocked out to some Ozzy and other various artists for those who had been dragged there by there girl friends. There were a ton of people at the show, and a few towers (tall people) between me and the stage, but I got a few good pics. Fergie Ferg managed to change outfits 3 times, and I give her props for wearing a jacket and pleather pants in 30*C muggy heat. I was sweating in shorts and a T.
The night started off great! My bf dropped me off hours before the show to get my ticket, and what should happen? While I was waiting in line for to get a ticket, a lady came up and asked if anyone wanted a free one. Naturally I yelled "yes, I would!" and took her ticket. Fergie played for an hour, but with no encore. I just saw a free show so I wasn't complaining! The whole night cost me $5.50 for one beer. Was too focussed on Fergie to take outfit pictures, sorry!

Long Over Due!

I have been talking about my garage sale finds for about 2 weeks now saying that 'pictures are coming soon!' and it has been a while, but I have finally been able to upload them. Here they are, here is my new/old awesome retro chair and my bed throw!

I took these quickly in my room before heading back to Ottawa. I know they are not very artistic, but my camera was dying so it was literally 'turn camera on, snap as soon as possible before it dies. Turn camera back on, snap...etc.' But I love both of these and am so glad I

was able to snag them!

It has been eating at me that I do not spend enough time regularly updating my blog. I seem to say I will do something and do not get to doing it for a few days. I really want that to stop, even though it is hard to keep this regular when I have a 9-5 corporate job, and am busy at night. I am going to make a big effort to keep this regular.

I started a skirt a few days ago and just finished it last night. I get a huge sense of accomplishment when I finish something to the end. Most of my other clothing projects are half done or have come to a halt because I chose the wrong material or took on something that was too complicated. I will take pictures tonight and post them in my new 'What I Made' section shortly!

It is exhausting

I have been so excited about blogging, shopping and planning to snap pictures of my clothing, that I have just become exhausted. I have been browsing through many great blogs on here and have come to a tiring halt. I realize that you can only have so many articles of clothing. Looking through the same sites for daily blogs, it is like a continuous day after day rhythm of consumption followed by show&tell. Don't get me wrong, I hope not to get any bad comments because I do enjoy looking at all of the outfits bloggers wear. Most of you are extremely unique, but it just seems like we buy buy buy and don't wear anything twice. But that is what happens i guess, our new clothes don't seem as new anymore, and our old clothes look frumpy and don't look as good on as we once thought.
I know that every few weeks when I look at my closet and decide I have nothing to wear, I go out shopping. My new purchases become my new favourite clothes and push the last new clothing to second place in the line. The new articles of clothing make me wonder how I ever made outfits out of the clothes I had before. It now seems impossible. Our closets are like conveyor belts, constantly bringing new things down the line and the oldest thing falling off the end and out of favour.
Instead of constantly purchasing new clothing, I am starting fashion sewing lessons this week and will hopefull slowly be able to create my own items. Instead of just clothing I have purchased which will be available in my What I Wore section, I want to have a What I Made section that will showcase my creations.

Happy Canada Day!

I am back from my long weekend in Toronto and Kingston. I love boutiques in Toronto! There clothing is so unique, but I also had to make a stop off at Forever 21 which I didn't know they had there. I bought a cute retro dress that is white, orange and maroon. I'll have pictures to post soon, I've just got to get my mind back in order after the Canada Day festivites last night! Happy 141 B-day Canada!
