New Christina

It looks like Christina Aguilera is upping her style anti and creating an edgier self! After she chopped off her locks in early November, the last few pictures I have seen of her, she has ditched her 50's glam.
Out today at Cecconi's restaurant in West Hollywood, she was sporting some amazing Christian Louboutin boots and a Union Jack McQueen clutch. I'm not loving the bob on her yet, but I am loving the clothes. What do you think of her new look?

T.Dot

I spent another lovely day in Toronto today. It was freezing cold and snowing all over the place but I still had fun! I think I finally have a good handle on the Toronto bus and subway system...however I have yet to attempt the streetcar adventure. I visited the Bata Shoe Museum, it was interesting but not worth the adult fee (go Thursday after 5 and admission is free). Next I hit the Eatons center, always great fun and then I went to the ROM to see the Vanity Fair exhibit which is worth a look.

This is a little black dress I tried on at H&M. Amazing texture and ruffly straps. for only $39.99!

fun fact: high shoes like this were a legally mandated aspect of dress for prostitutes in many parts of Italy around the 12th century. An order by the Florentine Office of Decency in 1384 stipulated that prostitutes must wear platform footwear.

Fun fact: High heels were popular for both men and women. They were seen as a status symbol, those with high heels vould not do manual labour.

Finally Feels Like Christmas

Today was the first substantial snow fall of the season! I woke up with green grass and a lite snow which, in a matter of hours, turned into a winter wonderland of 6cm! After seeing a bunch of fender-benders and a few stuck cars I went home, grabbed the camera and ran out to snap some photos before it probably disappears tomorrow.

Homage to The Lady

I love Lady Gaga for her fearlessness and how she turns ordinary things like hair, newspaper print and disco balls into fearless barely-there fashion. I once read that she wears such little clothing while performing because her grandmother is almost blind and can only see light colours. The more skin Gaga shows, the better her grandmother can see her on TV. How true this is, is anyone's guess. According to Gaga on the Jay Leno show, she has been scantily clad for most of her years. She went to a Catholic school where she had to wear a uniforms and says she was always getting in trouble by the nuns for hiking her skirt up too high. However, these experiences and life lessons are what make us who we are....and I wouldn't change her! She has brought some freshness and originality to the celebrity music scene.

Here are some of her most notable looks...

Christmas Treats

I don't know about you, but I am the most picky person when it comes to presents. My friends and family usually find it impossible to buy me anything unless I have specifically said that I wanted it. That is why I love Christmas! Ever year my parents take me somewhere for a shopping spree and then pack all my purchases away for Christmas. I know it's not as much of a surprise as it used to be when I was a child, but at least I won't be returning anything. They know how much I love clothing so that is what I always get.
One of my amazing purchases were these Steve Madden pumps!! I love them so much! They are about a 4 inch heel with a hidden platform in the toe. I have a small obsession with Steve Madden shoes. I feel like he is designing just for me. I love most of his shoes...especially these silver snake skin print ones.

I haven't been wearing heels a lot in the last 2 years because of an accident I had. I was running in heels (big no no) while a guy friend was chasing me. He fell and took my legs out. I was on crutches for 8 weeks and 3 weeks of physio after that. These shoes still hurt my one foot a bit, but I love them too much to care :)

Warming Up

Lately I just haven't been able to find the time to blog. I really hope that gets better. Here is a quick post before I have to get ready to go out again. I got my bangs trimmed today, so now at least now I can see :)

This trench was/is my moms, it was given to her as a present from my grandparents back in the 70's/80's. I don't know exactly when I just know I wasn't around at the time. Anyway, it is gorgeous. It is some type of leather, but I don't know if it is cow/lamb/pig skin and also has an amazingly soft fur collar! I wish you could feel how soft it is! Amazing.

Again, I do not support wearing new fur, but I will wear vintage fur.

Pumpkin

Busy with things places and people. Witnessed a car accident while sitting here! Snapped a few shots the other day. I love this skirt because it just looks like a plain one until the light catches it, and then you see all the pattern and embroirery. You can see it best in the second picture. I am excited for my stained glass lesson tomorrow! Anyone doing anything fun this weekend?

Sketchy

I signed up for a stained glass lesson! I have never really had a desire to make stained glass, but I think this will be really intersting. There is a little shop up the road from my house that gives the lessons. Wonderful people, the place is called The Glass House if you want to look it up.
Also, I have taken up drawing in my spair time. I take memorable runway looks and sketch them for myself. I like having art on my walls that I've made myself.

Sleeping Caps and Vintage Hats

Last week le family and I went antiquing in the Picton area, and came across a fantastic vintage store! Unfortunately it wasn't open at time and all I could do was drool and fog up their window. Well, today being a do nothing day I ventured to Belleville and spend at least 1.5 hours in the place. It is the most incredible and affordable vintage store I have ever been in. All the clothing and accessories are in perfect condition and the variety is staggering. There was a whole wall dedicated to hats! The furs, the shoes, the gloves!

aren't these gloves incredible!? ($28)

Amazing dress! ($80)

I couldn't leave without picking up a jem or two. I ended up getting 2 vintage hats. One with mink fur and beaver. On the fur debate, I do not buy new fur, but I will wear older vintage pieces. The woman from the gallery was amazing! She kept getting me to try on hats, and I loved them all. She took my number just in case she needs a model for them. Neat!

Christmas Charols and Cardigans

Phew, it was a busy weekend and a sickly one. I wasn't feeling that great but my brother and his girlfriend came down from Toronto for a visit. I was pondering life and getting older over the weekend and thought I would share a thought...Isn't it interesting how so many things change around you as you grow up? Using my brothers life as an example, he used to come home and stay when he was in school because my parents place was still his home, then he came home often for weekends after he got a place and job in Toronto, and now it is infrequent and doesn't come by himself. He is now a "we" not an "I". Now holidays are different, you don't feel as close any more...When you're young you always know and expect growing up to happen, but when it does, the day to day you knew for most of your life is suddenly different. I am one of those people who likes consistency in the world and I'm eagerly anticipating mine to settle down.
Anywho, I was out with a friend for shopping and supper last week, and bought this little cardigan that I think is so special. It is the boyfriend cardigan style which I have always loved and finally have one myself.

Give Me Eggnog Or Give Me Death

Well, I got the job I interviewed for in Toronto but turned it down. I don't know if that was a mistake or not...loved the people there but it wasn't quite a job I think I would be happy doing for years to come. I really hope that another position comes up there soon.
Well, in anticipation of getting ready to move, I have been couch shopping and dish shopping. I am loving going into stores and thinking about how I want to decorate my new place! I want it to be modern and sophisticated which a cream, light pink, grey and black colour scheme. My favourite interior designer is Sarah Richardson. I wish she would do my place!! She does live in Toronto...it could make a good episode!

Everyone Deserves Cookies

So I was waiting around in Union Station on Friday for my VIA train when who should get off her but Stacey Mckenzie. I haven't seen her since Ottawa Fashion Week! She looked great by the way, but I was surprised that she wasn't surrounded by her usual entourage...it was just her. I wonder what she was doing in Toronto?
I did a lot of walking downtown Toronto before heading out at 6:30, and did a lot of window shopping! I had to buy this knit hat from H&M, it was so sweet. Everyone is always complaining that I don't dress warm enough in the winter, my motto is usually "fashion over function" which is ridiculous but true. So here is my first purchase towards winter prep, I never wear touques or hats but when they look this cute, I'm going to have to start!
